TZEDAKAH CURRICULUM (ALL GRADES)
ךמחל בע•ר•ל סֹר•פ אֹולה - Feed the Hungry

During the past year the students collected money for the Jewish Relief Agency which
delivers non-perishable food items to over 2,000 families each month.  Twice last year
FJCC families went to the JRA warehouse to package up and deliver food to Jewish
residents in the Bala Cynwyd area.  Our year continued with the students bringing in
healthy non-perishable food items to donate to the local food pantries.  The students
collected over 613 food items.  We ended the year learning about Meir Panim, an
agency in Israel that provides social services to needy.  The students raised enough
money to purchase 60 lunches for school aged children in poor communities in Israel.

This year the FJCC Hebrew School will continue examining the mitzvah of feeding the
hungry.  This will be a schoolwide theme that will be woven in the fabric of the overall
curriculum Pre-K through Hebrew High 12, and will be examined in relationship to the
Jewish calendar, Jewish holidays and ethical tenets of tzedakah, kindness, truth and
justice.

During the first part of the year the students will collect money to donate to the Jewish
Relief Agency and in December we will take a bus to the warehouse where we will first
assemble food items for local families and then we will deliver the boxes to residents
receiving their monthly food box.  This is a wonderful opportunity for parents and children to
participate "hands-on" in making a difference in our local Jewish community.  Mark your
calendar now and save the date...we will be going to the JRA on Sunday, December 18th.
Hope you will join us.

In the winter months, when donations to the Flemington Food Pantry and Open Cupboard
are at an all time low, our students will continue to support our local community by
donating 613 canned food items.  If you recall last year, it was wonderful to see the food
box in the hall piled high with nutritious food for people in our neighborhood.

We will conclude the year with a tzedakah collection to purchase lunches for children in
Israel.  The Rabbi, teachers and I feel it is important to reinforce the lessons learned last
year and expand upon them through the curriculum.

This August, before Hebrew School resumes, Hebrew High School students will have the
opportunity to pick corn and donate the fruits of their labor to the Flemington Food pantry.
Look for details for 7th-12th graders to participate.
